Monday, October 8th marked the beginning of the MIPCOM conference in Cannes, which will wrap up on Friday the 12th. It is encouraging to see the audiovisual industry continuing to be strong, commercial deals being conducted between countries and organizations worldwide, and how the media industry, continues to prove that it does not deserve the stigma of being traditional or outdated.

The Interactive Team and I attended the 2nd annual Google Hispanic Marketing conference in NYC. The event attracted people and companies like ours that are the developing digital products targeted to the underserved US Hispanic Market. Victor Kong, Rafael Garcia, Jorge Rincon and I got a lot out of this event and wanted to share some insights with you.
About two years ago we set out to develop a new social responsibility program for Venevision, our TV network in Venezuela. Cisneros Group, our parent company, has been “giving back†for over 35 years through the educational programs of the Fundacion Cisneros and as a network, Venevision has always been a responsible company, helping the schools in the area, running a yearly telethon to raise money for the “Hospital Ortopédico Infantilâ€, and organizing food, blood and toy drives during hard times.
During NATPE 2012, I had the pleasure to meet and talk with Anna Carugati, Editor at World Screen. Among other topics, we discussed the importance of interactivity in programming as well as some of the new initiatives taking place at the Cisneros Group.
Last week during Napte, I had the opportunity to meet with John Yearwood, news editor at The Miami Herald. During my interview we discussed, the strategy, vision and challenges facing the Cisneros Group for the next couple of years.
On Monday was the premiere of our most highly anticipated novela, El Talisman, the second collaboration by Venevisión Productions and Univisión. Produced completely in high definition (HD), El Talisman includes a first class cast and production team, and is expected to have full-blown success, as was seen by its predecessor Eva Luna which also broke various network and broadcasting records.
My team and I just spent the past three days at the NATPE conference in Miami. It was very insightful and a great catalyst for sharing new ideas and hearing about best practices. It was time well spent with colleagues, peers and industry leaders.
At the beginning of NATPE, the annual Conference & Exhibition of the worldwide television community, I had a One-on-One session with Anna Carugati, from World Screen, where we talked about how the Cisneros Group is handling the many opportunities that the new media offers to reach our audiences, focusing on one thing: making TV a social experience.
